GCSE Chemistry Tutors

Six specialist Chemistry tutors, every one teaching both AQA and Pearson Edexcel, at both tiers. Lessons work from past papers and real mark scheme feedback.

Why GCSE Tutors

Six reasons a Chemistry specialist is different.

Chemistry asks for three different skills at once: recall, calculation and particle-level reasoning. Students rarely lose all three, so we find the one that is costing marks.

A Chemistry specialist only

Your tutor teaches Chemistry every week. They are not a physicist covering Chemistry because the timetable needed filling.

Moles taught, not skipped

Quantitative chemistry is where Higher papers are won and lost. We teach it properly rather than leaving it to the last term.

Both boards covered

All six tutors teach the AQA course and all six teach Edexcel, so the match is to your paper.

The right tier, chosen early

Entry at the wrong tier costs grades either way. We go through the mock papers with you before your school fixes its entries.

Practicals rehearsed on paper

The practicals come back as written questions. Tutors rehearse the apparatus, the readings and what typically goes wrong.

Progress you can see

A written note after every lesson and a monthly summary, so you can follow the work without having to ask for it.

The qualification

GCSE Chemistry at a Glance

Entry is at Foundation or Higher, and the choice matters. Foundation stops at grade 5, while Higher opens the range from 4 up to 9.

Whichever board your school uses, the shape is the same: two written papers, 1 hour 45 minutes each, 100 marks apiece, weighted evenly.

Nothing is coursework. The practical work is examined on paper instead, so a student who did the experiment can still lose the marks.

Syllabus

Every Chemistry Topic We Cover

The main topic areas on the AQA course. Edexcel groups them differently but examines the same chemistry, so lessons map across either way.

01
Atomic structure and the periodic table
Models of the atom, electron arrangement, groups and trends
02
Bonding and structure
Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, giant structures, properties explained
03
Quantitative chemistry
Moles, reacting masses, concentration, yield and atom economy
04
Chemical and energy changes
Reactivity, electrolysis, exothermic and endothermic profiles
05
Rates and organic chemistry
Rate experiments, equilibrium, crude oil, alkenes and polymers
06
Analysis, atmosphere and resources
Tests for gases and ions, greenhouse gases, potable water
Where the marks actually go
Quantitative chemistry is the single biggest cause of lost Higher marks. If one topic earns extra lesson time, it is moles.
Past papers

Practice From Real Chemistry Papers

Lessons work through genuine past papers and their mark schemes, not imitation questions written to look like them.

AQA

AQA GCSE Chemistry

Two papers of 1 hour 45 minutes. Paper 1 covers atomic structure, bonding, quantitative chemistry and energy changes. Paper 2 covers rates, organic chemistry and analysis.

Papers 1 and 2Foundation and Higher
Pearson Edexcel

Edexcel GCSE Chemistry

Same duration and marks, a different topic order and question style. Lessons follow whichever version your school entered your child for.

Mark schemes

Marked as an examiner would

Your tutor marks the work against the real mark scheme, so an unbalanced equation or a missing state symbol shows up before the exam.

Moles, yield and concentration

Calculation questions pulled from several years of papers, so we fix a weak method rather than revisit it once.

Exam technique

Decoding command words, structuring 6-mark answers, and timing, the marks students leave on the table.

Every lessonThe difference-maker
How a Chemistry lesson runs

An hour aimed at the one skill costing the grade.

The first lesson finds the loss, then we aim at it

Your tutor marks a recent paper and locates where the marks went: recall, calculation or explanation. Everything after that aims at whichever it turned out to be.

Past papersMolesRequired practicalsBoth tiers

Method before answer

Students talk through the steps before calculating, so the tutor hears the reasoning rather than only seeing a final number.

A problem set every week

Every lesson closes with questions on what was just taught, marked before the next one, so gaps surface immediately.

Exam technique

Where Chemistry Marks Are Really Lost

Most lost marks are not topics a student cannot do. They come from unbalanced equations, moles done in the wrong order, and explanations that stop too early.

Equations not balanced

A balanced symbol equation with state symbols is often worth two marks on its own. It is the cheapest mark on the paper to drop.

Moles in the wrong order

Mass to moles, then ratio, then back to mass. Students who jump straight to the answer lose the method marks.

Practical detail

Naming the measurement, the repeat and the source of error earns marks. Vague answers about "being careful" earn none.

Explanations that stop early

Saying a structure has strong bonds is half an answer. The mark comes from saying which bonds and why that raises the melting point.

You See Every Chemistry Lesson

One test score rarely shows whether chemistry is improving. These four reports track the direction week by week instead.

  • Notes after every lesson
  • Topic checklist, red to green
  • Monthly progress report
  • A recording of each lesson

What Gulf Parents Tell Us

chemistry moles and organic reactions were dragging my son's grades down. this online tutor explained stoichiometry so clearly that everything finally clicked.

Questions

GCSE Chemistry Questions

Should my child take Foundation or Higher?

Higher is the only route above a 5. We look at the mock papers together and give you a straight recommendation before entries close.

Which boards do your Chemistry tutors teach?

All six teach the AQA course and all six also teach Edexcel. Each profile lists the boards that tutor covers, subject by subject.

My child cannot do moles. Is that normal?

Very. It is the most common weak spot at Higher tier. It is also one of the most teachable, because the method never changes.

Is Chemistry harder than Combined Science?

It goes deeper and carries more content, including extra organic chemistry and analysis. Students taking it usually want a science at the next level.

How many hours a week do you suggest?

Most families book one hour a week. Students often add a second session in the months leading up to the exam.

Do you cover the required practicals?

Yes. They are examined on paper, so lessons rehearse the apparatus, the readings and the usual sources of error.
