GCSE Psychology Tutors
Three specialist Psychology tutors, all teaching the AQA course. Lessons work from past papers and real mark scheme feedback.
Six things a subject specialist does differently.
Students choose this subject expecting to discuss behaviour and meet a science exam instead. Research methods run through both papers and decide most grades.
GCSE Psychology at a Glance
GCSE Psychology is graded 9 to 1. There are no tiers, so every student sits the same paper and the whole grade range is open.
AQA sets two written papers. Each lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, carries 100 marks, and is worth half the grade.
Paper 1 covers cognition and behaviour. Paper 2 covers social context and behaviour. Research methods can be examined on either.
Every Psychology Topic We Cover
The eight topic areas on the AQA course, split across the two papers, with research methods running through both.
Practice From Real Psychology Papers
Lessons work through genuine past papers and their mark schemes, not imitation questions written to look like them.
Paper 1
Memory, perception, development and research methods, in a written paper of 1 hour 45 minutes carrying 100 marks.
Paper 2
Social influence, language and thought, the brain and psychological problems, with the same length and mark total.
Marked as an examiner would
Answers come back against the real criteria, so we catch a description offered where the question wanted evaluation.
Variables, sampling and data
Research methods questions pulled from several years of papers, because they recur in a predictable shape.
Exam technique
Decoding command words, structuring 6-mark answers, and timing, the marks students leave on the table.
An hour pointed at the lost marks.
We start from the mark scheme, not the next chapter
Your tutor marks a recent paper first and finds whether the problem is recall, methods or evaluation. We build the lesson from that.
Answered live, then marked
Students write the longer answers in the lesson and watch them marked, so the gap between knowing and scoring closes.
Studies tested weekly
We check recall of the named studies at the start of each lesson, because an evaluation without detail cannot score well.
The Psychology Tutors on Our Team
Where Psychology Marks Are Really Lost
Most lost marks come from studies half remembered, evaluation offered as description, and research methods questions left until last.
Studies half remembered
Aim, method, findings and conclusion each carry credit. A general sense of what happened in the experiment earns almost nothing.
Describing, not evaluating
Evaluate asks for strengths and weaknesses with a reason. Retelling the study again is the most common way to lose these marks.
Methods avoided
Students who skip the numbers lose a predictable block of marks. The questions repeat in shape, so practice pays quickly.
Command words misread
Identify, describe and discuss want very different answers. Students lose marks by answering the wrong question thoroughly.
You See Every Psychology Lesson

GCSE Psychology Questions
Which board do your Psychology tutors teach?
All three teach the AQA course. Sitting another board? Send us the subject and the board, and we match you with a Psychology specialist within 24 hours.
Is there much maths in this subject?
Some, and it is examined. Means, ranges, percentages and graphs come up regularly and are straightforward once practised.
My child finds the studies hard to remember.
Most do. We break each one into aim, method, findings and criticism, which is also exactly how the marks are awarded.
There are no tiers, so what decides the grade?
Every student sits the same paper and the full 9 to 1 range is open. The grade comes from the band each answer reaches.
How often should lessons run?
One 60-minute lesson weekly suits most students. Two is common in the term before the exam, or after a weak mock.
Is Psychology a science subject?
It is examined like one. Research methods, data and evaluation carry heavy weight, which surprises students expecting discussion alone.
